One Paragraph Personal Bio |
My name is Daris, and I am a daughter, a wife, a therapist, and a volleyball coach. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico until the age of 17 when I moved to the US after being scouted and offered a scholarship to study abroad. I began playing volleyball when I was 8 years old, and by 14 I was playing in a professional league. My entire life revolved around volleyball, and I remember my mother being there every step of the way. At 15 I was also invited to participate in the Juvenile National Team and represented PR in international tournaments. I started attending my freshman year of college at the age of 16 in Puerto Rico. In that year, I remember playing for three teams, the college, the professional team, and the national team. Shortly after, I was recruited to play for a D1 community college in Illinois. Then, I transferred to Lynn University, played my junior and senior year, and graduated with a BA in Human Services. I stopped playing volleyball after college due to existing knee injuries. Instead, I continued my education and graduated with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2011. Since then, I have worked in the mental health field, and currently provide family therapy and individual therapy for children. I began coaching travel volleyball in 2015. The first team I ever coached was 10U and, since then, I have coached 12U, 14U, 16U, and a high school volleyball varsity team. Some of my hobbies include working out, bicycle riding, traveling, and spending time with loved ones. |
